Quilt
In the fall of 1997, parents of children fighting cancer throughout the United States searched for a symbol to represent the courage, strength and love that children battling cancer share with the world.
|
 |
The result is the Childhood Cancer Awareness Quilt, a project administered nationally through CCAP, Childhood Cancer Awareness Project and locally through Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Western Washington. (CCCF-WWA).
One of our quilts is always on display in the Hematology Oncology Clinic at Children’s Hospital in Seattle. We rotate them out periodically. The others are used for display purposes at events. Our quilts have traveled to Washington DC several times to help create awareness about the number one disease killer of children and the need to fund research.
If you would like to create a quilt square for an upcoming quilt, please check out the next page, which has step-by-step instructions. We would be happy to mail you the material and the instructions. Call us at 206-624-9989 or email cccfwwa@aol.com or write to us at CCCF-WWA, PO Box 24091, Seattle, WA 98124.

Anyone can make a quilt square for this project! IT'S EASY AND FUN!!
You don't need to have any sewing talent to make a quilt square. Just take a 9 inch square of any kind fabric (do not use silky material please) and mark off a 1/2 inch blank border on all sides.
This border is needed for proper assembly of the quilt so that there is enough material to attach to the other squares.
You will then have an 8 inch square area to work with. You can use acrylic paint, "puffy" fabric paint, cross stitch, embroidery, stenciling (use permanent paint please), sew on decals or but-tons, photo transfers or computer designs.
Check out the quilt at Seattle Children's Heme/Onc clinic for ideas.

|
Be sure to add any information important to you. Mail your completed square to CCCF-WWA, PO Box 24091, Seattle, WA 98124. Please enclose your contact information on a sheet of paper: Your name, Child's name, your address, and telephone numbers and how
you are related to child depicted on the square. We will call to confirm we got it and if you have any questions, our quilt coordinator will call you back!
Remember these quilts represent every child, those who are currently on treatment, those who have survived or are in remission and those who did not survive their disease. The Quilts make
a powerful statement and help to create awareness. If you have an event that would be enhanced by displaying one of our quilts, please call or email us with the date, location and a description of the event.

If you really feel artistically challenged, we have volunteers who can make your square for you. To help guide the volunteer we would need the pertinent information plus favorite colors, activities and a few words about the child's personality. |
