Board of Directors
  • Shirley Enebrad - President, mother of Cory Dx: ALL 1/25/80 (4 relapses), DOD 5/13/85    “I am working with CCCF because I bring a lot of perspective to parents whose children are dying or have gone to heaven.” Shirley grew up in Seattle. She attended California State University. She is married with 2 daughters. Shirley has been an award-winning television producer since 1985. Shirley’s son Cory died from ALL (Leukemia) after a five and a half year battle. As a result, Shirley started a series of support groups and workshops for terminally ill children and their families through the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Foundation, the American Cancer Society and Candlelighters of Western Washington. Shirley returned to the board after a 10-year hiatus and she continues to facilitate the CCCF Bridge to Bereavement groups and annual weekend retreats for parents. She also facilitates monthly grief workshops for children and teens for Providence Hospice in Everett. Shirley’s name has been synonymous with children with cancer and with dying children in the Seattle area for more than 20 years. In 1987 she was honored with a prestigious Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service for her tireless work in the field of dying children and in 2004 she received the Angel of Hospice Award for her work with grieving children and teens. Shirley is the Washington state Team Leader for CureSearch (NCCF & COG).
  • Charles Marcouiller - Vice-President, father of Max Dx: ALL 6/16/00, DOD 7/25/04    is a new transplant to the Seattle area. Chuck holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a MBA from Brigham Young University. He is long time manager within ADP, a Fortune 100 international company. Charles and his wife Shana are very in tune with the struggles of a cancer family after going through 4 1/2 years of continuous treatment with their son Maxwell. Max was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 13 months old. Candlighters was an important organization during their treatment and he understands the highs and lows a family goes through as part of the cancer process.
  • Christine Howarth Treasurer, mother of Brianna Howarth, Dx: alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, (Stage II), 1/04, 9 months remission; side effects yet unknown Christine works for Weyerhaeuser in Research and Technology, her husband Dave works for Jorgenson Forge. Brianna, Christine and Dave's daughter, was diagnosed with alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma at 3 1/2 years old and treated at Seattle Children's Hospital. Brianna's treatment included 10 1/2 months of chemotherapy, four weeks of radiation, and surgery to remove the tumor. One of the blessings, we discovered, of having a child diagnosed at such a young age is that she still has her innocence, she is unaware of the mortality, or the severity, of the cancer, and therefore is still able to have a normal childhood. For that we are eternally grateful. We enjoy being a part of Candlelighter's and the families that we serve.
  • Beth Goheen At Large, mother of Tessie, Katie Dx: Osteosarcoma, December 31, 2001 and Becky Dx: Synovial cell sarcoma on June 26, 2004 Beth’s 45 year-old husband Paul died from esophageal cancer in June 2, 1996 and then six years later, on December 31, 2001, Katie her middle daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, she was12 years old. Katie had more than 12 months of horrific treatment such as massive doses of toxic chemotherapy and surgery. On June 26, 2004 Becky, Beth’s youngest daughter was diagnosed with synovial cell sarcoma in her breast. She endured eight months of equally horrific treatment that included chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. It was discovered that the girls’ father carried a genetic weakness called Li-Fraumini Syndrome. The girls are at high risk of new cancers and Beth’s oldest daughter Tessie has an 85% risk of getting cancer too. Beth works for a wonderful printing company in Poulsbo.
